In a food rut?!?

It happens to all of us…we get in a “routine” at the grocery store and we buy the same groceries EVERY week. We get bored…tired of the same ol’ recipes…we lose our “food mojo!”

A food rut can be a dangerous place for healthy eaters and transforming eaters alike! When we lose interest in our foods, the not so good foods have a tendency to sneak in! Stopping at a fast food restaurant, grabbing a convenience based supper or even just grabbing “treats” to break up the routine!

Fear not…there are ENDLESS types, combinations and flavours of healthy eats! When I’m in a food rut…here are my go to strategies to bust out of my food rut and find some new favorites!

  • Pick up a new cookbook, magazine or spend some quality web time recipe surfing! (My favorite source for cookbooks is the public library! With so many cookbooks out there…I like to try them out before they get added to my collection!)
  • Head to your local market–nothing beats fresh, local grown veggies! (I just had some great beet greens and fresh carrots this weekend!)
  • Host a potluck! Family and friends always bring their fav dishes to a potluck! A great way to socialize

    AND get new recipes!

  • Hit up your local produce section and try something new & exotic! Don’t know what it is? Perfect! Dragon fruit…kale…papaya are all great new flavours to try!
  • Mix up your cooking style! Always bake your veggies? Throw them on your BBQ grill! Tired of salads? Put them on a stick! (When food is fun…kids automatically are more interested!)
  • Experiment! Combine your favorite ingredients together…you might just be pleasantly surprised!

Bust out of your food rut and stick with your commitment to healthy eating!!!
